Melanie Akers, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, has been named vice president of women’s and children’s services for Marshall Health Network. Akers will provide leadership, direction and administration for the management of Hoops Family Children’s Hospital and the women’s and children’s service lines across Marshall Health Network.
With more than 25 years of nursing experience, Akers has served as the director of Hoops Family Children’s Hospital since 2015, and as the director of The Maternity Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital since 2020. She previously served as a nurse manager in pediatrics and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hoops Family Children’s Hospital.
Akers received her Doctor of Nursing Practice and her Master of Business Administration from Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware. She received her Master of Science in Nursing Administration and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marshall University. Akers holds a Nurse Executive Advanced Board Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
